a5c7b9f00b Set in Mumbai, Sacred Games delves into the city's intricate web of organized crime, corruption, politics and espionage that lie beneath India's economic renaissance. It is an epic masterwork of exceptional richness and power that interweaves the lives of the privileged, the famous, the wretched and the bloodthirsty. Sartaj Singh, a Mumbai police officer, receives an anonymous phone call from a gangster who threatens to blow up the entire city. Amid the corrupt standards of Indian law enforcement begins a battle between a 'nobody' cop and ruthless gangster who perceives (sometimes) himself to be a God. Finished all the 8 episodes in one stretch. This is undoubtedly a path breaking show coming from Anurag, Vikramiditya and Netflix. The content is rich and the canvas is epic, I haven't read the book but the story is quite gripping. The way the story unfolds and the depiction of parallel timeline is amazing. The acting is great from each and every character, Nawaz is outstanding as usual. The biggest advantage for the series is it's medium, thanks to online streaming media it did not have to go through the scissors. This freedom from censorship has allowed the makers to showcase their vision without compromising. It's coming of age for Indian shows. Have been waiting long for an Indian content like this. Sacred Games is without a doubt one of the best shows on Netflix this year. Anurag Kashyap and Vikramaditya Motwane are at their best. The writing by Varun Grover is sharp and edgy. The cast is amazingly impactful especially Saif Ali Khan who shines in a different avatar and is extremely convincing as a troubled Sikh inspector. From his body language to his subtle expressions, he nails the role. Nawaz is good as usual though his role seems to be an extension of his characters in Gangs of Wasseypur and Badlapur. The supporting cast is brilliant especially Jitendra Joshi and Jatin Sarna. Eagerly waiting for the next season now!
